So royal baby n.3 was born a few weeks ago. Kate and William welcomed their little Prince Louis Arthur Charles on April 23rd.
When are you welcoming YOUR little baby?
Okay, your baby might not be a real royal, but let’s say it. In our (mum’s) eyes we all have little princesses and princes, right? 🙂
While you are pregnant you plan a lot of things: you have a long list of things to buy for little baba, a series of visits and check-ups, classes you will attend from yoga to antenatal . . . and so much more! If you are thinking about newborn photography it’s better to add that to the list as well!
Celebrating a tiny new addition to your family is a very special time. By hiring a professional photographer you are sure to have some truly stunning images and memories that you will want to treasure forever.
When to book your newborn photography session
Ideally, you should start looking to book your newborn session just after your 20th-week scan. This way you really have the time to go through photographers’ portfolio, do your searches, you can meet and have a chat with your photographer. That gives you a piece of mind and you can book a provisional date based on your due date, to make sure you don’t miss the newborn window. That date can then be moved according to the actual date of birth. Babies are best photographed between 5 days and 2 weeks old. They are still quite sleepy for the most part of the day, they are still used the womb position and they are flexible and easy to pose.
How to prepare for your session
We will have discussed on the phone and in person how a session works and you would have seen some behind the scene videos before the big day. However, I will send you a little reminder a few days before with what you need to bring with you. There is not really much to do on your hand other than coming with your baby and enjoying the session!
A newborn photography session should be remembered as a nice experience. When you come to me you will find a warm room with soft relaxing music as a background. You will be welcome with a little breakfast as well: some fresh croissants, tea or coffee, plenty of water. I know it’s so hard to get out of that door with a baby so I want to make sure you feel at ease as soon as you walk in.
Once baby has been fed, you can relax and take a nap if you want to. I will be on duty and will take care of that baby as if it was the royal baby 🙂 After 5 years photographing babies I know how to handle them and safety is my first priority. You will have a gallery of beautiful images of your baby in cute but natural positions and your baby will not be forced into something he’s not comfortable in. Babies can be unpredictable, that’s why there is no time restriction on your session and always time for cuddles, feeding and comfort.
What’s next step?
If you are considering capturing your baby’s early days and you wish to discuss a newborn photo shoot, please don’t hesitate to get in touch. I’ll be happy to meet for a coffee and a chat and delighted to photograph your bundle of joy.
