How sweet are these sleepy babies, I can’t get enough of them!

When you should photograph your newborn

The best time to photograph newborns is within their first 10 days of life. They are still very sleepy and inclined toward the foetal position so they can easily curl up in a bundle resulting in adorable portraits you will enjoy for years to come. It is best to book the session while you are still pregnant and we will set an appointment based on your due date. Of course, the date can easily be moved if the baby comes early or late.

If a baby is premature or has needed some extra care in hospital, you may have to wait a little longer before the shoot can take place. This is why it’s helpful to book the session ahead of the birth and then to stay in touch during the pregnancy and immediately after the baby is born. The baby’s weight is also quite important at the time of the session: smaller babies (5/6 pounds) are usually photographed later around 12-14 days while bigger babies can be photographed before, around 4-7 days.

Where is the session done

You can choose between a studio and a home session. I know how hard is getting out of the house when you have a new baby and how tiring it can be. That’s why I still offer a home service, so you can relax in your own environment without thinking about travelling and packing all your baby gear. This is a great option especially if you are thinking about having a ‘lifestyle session’, documenting the new baby in your home, the relationship of the family, capturing the nursery, some clothing items and toys etc. I can include some “posed” images at home but if  you prefer that look it’s better to come to the studio. For a home session an extra fee is required.

However if you feel your house is not an ideal place, or you don’t want to worry about cleaning and tiding up before and after the shoot, or if you just want to have a break from your routine you are welcome to come to my studio. It has been purposely created with a homely feel, so you can relax on the couch with a cup of tea and watch while I take care of your newborn baby. A much wider option of props are available here and you can get inspired by my products. However, I tend not to use many props, because my style is quite simple and I like the focus on baby. The studio is located in Wandsworth Town, SW London, very close to public transports. Wi-Fi also available. It’s your choice!

How long are the sessions

A newborn studio session takes a little bit of time and patience.

I never rush any of my sessions, especially mums with newborns. There is always plenty of time to nurse, feed, cuddle the baby in between shots. Usually, the session takes about 2 hours but they could last up to 3-4 hours depending on the baby’s needs. I will allow all the time necessary to ensure we have beautiful images of your baby as well as some with mum & dad.

I know mums don’t feel their best so soon after birth but I always encourage them to have a couple of photos with their precious baby. Once they see the finished product they always have the same reaction: “I love it! Thanks so much for having taken it”.

What happened next

After the session, I will carefully select the best images for you to review and edit them individually. You will receive a gallery of about 20-25 images within 2 to 3 weeks after your newborn session.

Have a look the Gallery to see more images of my work.
